Altaf Hussein Hali was such a remarkably diverse and

multifaceted personality in the arena of Urdu literature who not

only modernized Urdu prose but also revamped the pattern of

poetry. He was a deft scholar of Ghalib’s poetic tradition and well

acquainted with the power of his pregnant pen. His poetic genius

was brimmed with mighty emotions of love and intuition. There is

serenity and smoothness in the expression of love songs in his

poetry. He purged the romantic poetry from low sense of beauty,

emotional trivialities and decadence and elevated its stature to

sublime truths. His work is harmonized both in terms of moral

and reformative ideas as well as lofty feelings of love and beauty.
