Abstract

N. M. Rashid, an iconic poet of the twentieth century, is considered as one of the pioneers of free verse and a rebel and revolutionary in the world of Urdu literature.   His poetry is defiant and radical both in terms of form and subject matter. This research article explores the rebellious and revolutionary elements in N. M. Rashid's poem ,"Darechy k Qreeb"the said poem  has been written in free verse which breaks the shackles of hard and fast rules of meter and rhyme. Furthermore, as far as its subject matter is concerned, the poem deals quite rebelliously with topics like the age of slavery in India, the traditional Mullah who is a symbol of exploitation and oppression, the masses whose lives are fraught with purposelessness, and the incapacity of man to change the circumstances around him..
