Modernism is philosophical and literary movement that arose in early period of 20^th century . It is progressive trend of thoughts that affirms the power of human beings to create, improve, and reshape their society with the help of scientific knowledge, technology and practical experimentation. It is basically reaction of bourgeois values and industrial change in Europe. This reactionary attitude that flourished between 1900 to 1930 in Europe and between 1960 to 1980 in subcontinent, had bound by artificialities of a life. In this article humble effort is made to understand the background and characteristics of modernism.
