Abstract
The
tradition of critical translations in Urdu is not very old but its influence on
Urdu criticism is very deep. All most all the critical theories has been
transfered in Urdu from western literature through translations. From romantic
criticism to Environmenatal criticism, translations from English nd other
western languages played an important role in the initiation and evolution of
contemporary trends. "Muqadma e shir o shairi" of Maulana Hali is
recognized as the starting point of formal Urdu criticism. However, it is not a
transltion but directly influenced by western criticism. The"Poetics"of
Aristotle translated in to Urdu by different translaters with different names
and be succssful to to give a new direction to Urdu criticism. Due to the Urdu
translations of western criticism, new dimension are added to the creative
genere of Urdu and the literary thought. This article present briefly a study
of tradition of Urdu translations in criticism and its impacts on Urdu
criticism.
