Abstract

The article manipulates critical analysis of the terminology of commerce in Urdu. The terms such as commerce, trade, and business are used with the same meaning but they are various fields of economy. The terminology of commerce had been adopted into Urdu from English but the locums in Urdu are already available. Most of the terms are already accessible in Urdu yet they were translated and the original words were ignored. In our textbooks, major terms of commerce are ambiguous and baffling for students. This article traces back the historical background of Urdu terminology and emphasis the right word for the right term. Whereas translating from English into Urdu, the principles laid down by Waheed-ud-din Salim and the father of Urdu maulvi Abdul Haq be followed every time. According to him, where there is an alternative existing in Urdu, no English word or term should be used to replace it in commerce. The Jamia Usmania, Anjuman-n-Taraqi Urdu, and universities in Pakistan played a vital role in Urdu terminology for Economics. The principles laid down by Molvi Abdul Haq, Babai Urdu are still valid to be used for acquiring new Urdu terminologies.
