Abstract

Every religion in the world has its own sacred places, cherished by its followers, and Islam is no exception. Muslims hold certain places in the highest spiritual and emotional regard, considering them central to their faith and devotion. These revered places are not only spoken of with profound respect in everyday conversations but also occupy a prominent place in their literary works. Each year, millions of pilgrims embark on journeys to visit these sanctuaries, including Makkah and Madinah, along with Najaf, Karbala, and numerous shrines of prophets, companions of the Prophet (SAW) and historic mosques scattered across Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and other regions.

In Pakistan, particularly in travelogues, these sacred places have been frequently highlighted. Writers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, too, have contributed significantly by documenting their spiritual journeys and experiences at these sites. Women writers from the region have also played a vital role in capturing the sanctity and grandeur of the holy places in the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Iraq, and Syria, leaving a lasting impression on their readers.

Among the reputable female travelogue writers, notable names include Qudsia Qudsi, Musarrat Jahan Khattak, Bushra Farrukh, Musharraf Mubashir, Atiya Parveen, Tabinda Farrukh, Nilofer Sami, Aftab Iqbal Bano, and Nusrat Naseem. Despite facing numerous challenges, these writers undertook sacred journeys, observing these places with deep reverence. They not only shared spiritually enriching insights with their audience but also provided valuable guidance for future pilgrims through their writings.

These travelogues hold immense religious and literary significance, serving as a useful resource for those planning to visit these sacred places. Additionally, they act as a source of motivation for aspiring female writers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, encouraging them to explore and document their own travel experiences.
